Busy, Busy, Busy

We have been so busy the past couple of months, and it looks like we will be even busier for the next month or so.

Spracky’s GM is finally doing better and is under going physical therapy.

This blog had it’s one year anniversary on June 16th, which just so happens to be my 33rd birthday. And what else do you get for your 33rd birthday but an official Larry Bird jersey…number 33…get it???

Spracky and I had the chance to hang with Drew from the Dawn and Drew Show, and Showbiz Dad from Fireside Tales with Showbiz Dad in Gainesville. And of course we got to hang with Nick Starr, Ballroom Baby, and Tomit! You can check out some of the pictures here.

We recently got a treadmill so I can get into shape for surfing, and now I am about to run my first 5K race in two weeks. I won’t be “racing”, but I will be running. I don’t consider it a race if I know I have no chance of winning.

Spracky got an iPhone, spoiled brat!

I think that’s all I can tell you folks for now, there are a couple of really cool things that we have lined up for the next month, but we can’t tell you about it until after it happens…Sorry!

Everything is Irie

Not too much has been going on lately, which is great!!!

We had a nice swell come rolling in on the east coast of Florida this week, which was epic.

Spracky and I got to go see Captured! by Robots at JackRabbits, and it was a great show. J-Bot is an amazing one man band. And he has some really good lyrics. Go check out the website, it’s worth it. You can check out some pictures that Spracky took at the show in our Flickr account.
We are trying to plan another trip down to Costa Rica, but everything isn’t lining up like we would like, hopefully everything will come together at the last minute, we both need a break!

Spracky cranked her ankle a week ago while we were riding our bicycles. She keeps on trying to blame me. She was swatting at a fly that caused her to get off balance and sprain her ankle. And the fly in question was bothering me just a couple of seconds sooner and I didn’t kill it…Spracky’s logic!

I have been using Twitter lately which is like a real-time, one-liner blog, and it is pretty interesting to see what your friends are doing throughout the day.

Remember to try to think green, we have been riding our bicycles to drop off our dry cleaning, I know it’s not much but we get a little bit of a workout (nine miles round trip), and we aren’t using gasoline. :)

Imus fired???!!! WTF???!!!

I can not believe this crap is still going on.  People get in a huge uproar when there is a bandwagon to jump on.  Jackson and Sharpton come climbing out of the woodwork thinking that they are the second coming of the Prophet himself.

Nevermind the gratuitous use of such words like ni**er, ho, ni**a, nappy, bitch, and the like being used in almost every single modern rap “song”.

So it’s okay if you are of a certain race to use these words…the women of Rutgers were traumatized by Imus’ words…if that’s the case, I am traumatized by such things as B.E.T., the Miss Black America, the Ebony awards, the Source Awards, and the list goes on and on…but these things are not considered racist?????

It is 2007 people!!!  I will not apologize to any race for something that happened before I was born and I did not have anything to do with.  I do not think that just because you are a particular race, sex, belief, sexual orientation, or whatever that you should get a break in this world…this idea embodies the exact definition of racism!!

If a person of certain race can not speak their mind in America without having to worry about a lynch-like mob lead by Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, then this is not a truely free country, and we are letting racists, like these two men, decide for the masses, what is okay to say.

Mr. Jackson and Mr. Sharpton have made it painfully clear that only people of color are protected by the First Amendment.

Sorry fellas, but I have to disagree.  I am a white male in America in 2007…although I am not protected under the minority legislation that has been passed over the past couple of decades, I am still the minority.  Does this mean that I get special consideration when I go to apply for a job…nope.  Does this mean that I get special grants from the government…nope.  Am I going to get special considerations from the government if I owned a business because I am a minority…nope.

Who is truely being oppressed now?

6 years in the making

Six years ago this April Spracky and I got married in Hawaii. The day after we got married we walked down to the T&C Surf Shop right on Waikiki and I purchased my first “longboard”. The reason that I put quotes around longboard is because it wasn’t a true longboard, it was 8′6″ lon, but it had a thruster tail.

I think I have gotten this board wet once when I was trying to show Spracky how to paddle around in the ocean.

This past weekend there was a little swell that came through Florida. Right after work on Friday, Spracky and I headed out to my favorite local spot. It was a bit mushy, but I would rather paddle around then work.

On Saturday Spracky and I were getting ready to go to the beach and she suggested that I bring the longboard just for fun. I thought it was a bit of a hassle, but I said sure. Also, the water temperature was still in the upper 60’s to low 70’s range so I purchased a short-sleeve wetsuit top to wear with my boardshorts.

We got to the beach right at high tide. There were a couple of guys leaving the beach and they said that the surf was getting mushy. The sets looked really fun so I headed out with my 6′4″.

After paddling around for a while I was getting frustrated, I couldn’t catch anything. I headed back to the beach and talked with Spracky for a bit and decided to try the longboard out.

As I was trying to get out I was getting pounded by the surf. With a shortboard you can duck-dive under the whitewater or a breaking wave, but it’s just about impossible to do it with a longboard, I’m sure somebody can do it, but I don’t know anybody that can. So you keep getting hit head on by the whitewater and the breaking waves, and you get drug back towards shore. One time I almost lost my shirt and the board kept on flying back toward shore. I finally caught a break and paddled like hell to get to the outside.

Handling the board was a real challenge, you couldn’t just whip the thing around like a shortboard. One good thing was that you could paddle extremely fast on it, compared to a shortboard.

Once I had regain some arm strength I started lining up for some waves. The first set came and I started paddling for the first wave that I was in position for. I wave was passing me by and I was able to actually catch the wave due to how fast I was able to paddle on the longboard. I immediately stood up and it was almost like instinct to walk up the board a little to get a little more speed, mind you that I had never ridden a longboard before. I tried to turn, and of course fell off. You have to be a little bit more patient when trying to turn a longboard.

For the next hour or so I kept catching wave after wave, making sure to try to catch one of the waves toward the end of the set so I wouldn’t have to keep battling the rest of the set on my paddle back out.

I caught a wave almost all the way back to the shore and rested for a little bit with Spracky. I just couldn’t get over how much fun I was having on the longboard, I had always ridden shortboards.

Once I finally had some arm strength back I paddled back out for just a couple more waves. When I was ready to head back in I was looking for just the right wave.

I saw a set building, so I started to get into position. Since I didn’t plan on paddling back out I was just trying to concentrate on getting the largest wave with the best form. I started paddling for it and stood up. I started trying to fly down the face and cut back a little here and there. The wave started to mush out, so I started looking for the fast section to catch the reform. I was able to slide ride into the reform and I could see the wave starting to wall up, so I tried to get right in the perfect section and crouch down. I rode the wave all the way to the beach.

I could not believe how fun that was…I just stood there in the shallow water in utter disbelief…I started to realize that I had become one of those older guys that I always made fun of growing up that were riding longboards and they had the complete look of STOKE on their face.

Another great weekend

Another great weekend of surfing…not saying that the surf was great, but it was decent enough. This has been the first weekend in a while that all I did was made sure that I went surfing.

We have been so busy with packing, moving, unpacking, the D & D gathering in Lexington, we hadn’t had time just to relax. So Saturday I woke up early and started to run some errands while Spracky got ready for the beach.

Saturday I rushed right out into the line-up and completely killed my arms, I hadn’t been out since January…I should have known better. The tide was just changing to an outgoing tide, which is better at the spot we were at. I only caught one or two rides, but it always seems worth it at the end of the day.

Sunday we made our way to the beach, due to the time change we got there a little early so we sat on the beach and relaxed while the tide started to head out. There were about six guys in the line-up when we got to the beach, but they all headed in because the high tide was making the surf a little mushed out. By the time the tide had changed I had the line-up all to myself. After I had been out for a little while one other surfer showed up down south, otherwise the the peak was all mine.

Spracky was nice enough to snap some shots of the weekend.

The conglomerate of Podshow shows only receive 12,000 downloads a day!

I don’t want to give these dumbasses any more attention or free press, but I am completely tired of this podcast and their incorrect statements. They wish only to try to knock down the other podcasts to make themselves seem more famous. And most unfortunate of the listeners is that they believe…even “follow blindly” to lies that come from this podcast.

It’s immature at best and shows one of the worst traits humankind possesses…jealousy.

Oh, yeah… the numbers referenced do not appear to contain the subdomains of the parent website in question…dumbasses.

It was established on the latest episode of Keith and The Girl that all the shows on Podshow combined had only 12,000 downloads per day while it was clearly expressed that Keith and The Girl had well over the amount on their own, proving that the multi-million dollar Podshow investment was and is a crock!

So tired…

In 2006 I had a job for only 4 months.  It was a bit stressful for myself, and of course Spracky.

At the end of November I began a contract with a company which is less than 2 miles from where we live.  The people I work with are great, the work isn’t that difficult, and the pay is good as well.  But I am just so tired of going to work five days a week.

When I wasn’t working, everything was done around the apartment, and I usually tried to get the grocery shopping done.  Now Spracky and I are lucky if we have clean closes.

Don’t get me wrong, I am only allowed to work a 40 hour work week on this contract, but that 40 hours, and the other 10 to 15 hours a week I spend getting ready for work and what not, cuts into trying to get everything done.

It’s not that I don’t want to be a contributing member of society, I just wish I could make my own hours and have more time to spend with Spracky or just getting things done.

During my time off I started to realize that there are more important things that working your ass off 60 hours a week and trying to fit into the “corporate world”.  If you spend your whole life trying to be “corporate” then that defines you.  I would rather define myself, and a “suit” is not me…a regular job is not me.  I guess that’s why I don’t mind working as a contractor.  I don’t have to fit the corporate mold because I’m not trying to work my way up some “corporate ladder”, I’m just trying to get a nice size check.

Hopefully one of these days Spracky I will win the lottery and I can buy a surf shop, that way we can travel when we want, but I can always come back and work in the surf shop.

Dawn & Drew Lexington Meet-up

Posted on February 11th, 2007 by Dax.
Categories: blog post.

Spracky and I just got back from Lexington, Kentucky, where we were having an awesome time at the Dawn & Drew Lexington Meet-up 2.0.

We have been listening to The Dawn and Drew Show for almost 2 years. Spracky found their show and pointed it out to me, once I heard the first show I was hooked. I immediately started to download their old shows.

Some devoted fans, like Spracky and myself, have the privilege of belonging to The Minion Army, which is pretty much the fan-base for The Dawn and Drew Show. And last year a group of the Minions had a meet-up in Lexington. Spracky and I couldn’t make it last year, but we definitely were going to make it to this years. One little bonus to this years meet-up was that Dawn and Drew were able to make it.

Spracky and I had only met two other people that were going to be their. By the time we left today it felt like we had known all the other people that were there for years. Each and every person that showed up was fun to hang with and I don’t think anybody had one bad moment this weekend.

Spracky and I were able to spend some time talking with Dawn and Drew, which was really odd after listening to there shows for the past two years. I know that Dawn was feeling pretty sick, as was I, but she hung out with everyone and never showed that she wasn’t feeling 100%.

I think I can speak for Spracky and say that we were both pretty stoked about the entire weekend.

Hopefully we will be able to meet up with everybody again real soon!

Moving day has come and gone

First I would like to officially say that The Registry at Windsor Parke sux!!!

With that out of the way, on to the important news…Spracky and I have moved into a house, we are just leasing, but it is soooo much better than living in an apartment. This place is huge, we are about 90% moved and there is still an echo.

It’s so nice to not have to deal with loud ass neighbors slamming their door, or yelling and screaming like they are the only people in the building.

We still have to set up some of our furniture, but we are finally getting some peace.
